A cry for Zimbabwe

Ancient as the land
where the Kushites ruled.
Once pure as a virgin
bathing in the waters of the rain,
still full of morning smiles
captured by an eternal beauty
surrounded by satin grasslands
drenched in an ivory light
that illuminated and echoed
your name and royal legend.
Now the same light screams
in blood filled laments about
the eruptions of your peace
the invasion of democracy
the boom of the bombs
the staccato stutter of handguns
the dark distend of AIDS
the abuse of paradoxical raids
the sunrise lamentations
the sunset's malevolent hell
the endless tortured wails
that constantly sings its death songs
beneath the menacing blanket
of black smoke sworn to cut off the sun.

Zimbabwe/Zimbabwe/Zimbabwe
You shall be free again
Zimbabwe/Zimbabwe/Zimbabwe
Your suffering will soon end
The time will arise to break the chains
to set free all your fearless men
Zimbabwe/Zimbabwe/Zimbabwe
You shall not drown in your enemies sins!

Zimbabwe be not afraid
of the vampires in the night.
Orchestrate/vindicate/penetrate
your democratic voice,
use your powers to pierce the gloom
arch like a bow bent to kill
and strike against the famine of trust
inflicted upon you by the sad contentment
of civilized progress.
Zimbabwe I say to you snatch up arms
and destroy the beast,
take your stand and rise in your millions.
Liberate/illuminate/demonstrate
your uppermost disapproval
for another Rwanda or South Africa.

Zimbabwe/Zimbabwe/Zimbabwe
You shall be free again
Zimbabwe/Zimbabwe/Zimbabwe
Your nightmares will soon end
The time will arise to break the chains
to set free all your fearless men
Zimbabwe/Zimbabwe/Zimbabwe
You shall not drown in your enemies sins!

Trumpet for all of your children
to gather from their geographic locations
wearing their faces covered in ashes,
their eyes burning like lanterns
with the blazing fire of freedom
as a salutary sign of their resistance
against the political oppression
and the robbery of your godly rights
to oppose the plight of the rogue regime
that continue on lusting on raping you.
Zimbabwe be not afraid
the elephant has crossed the river
Zimbabwe be not afraid
to defy the devils in human masks
Zimbabwe be not afraid
to redeem your righteous song
Zimbabwe be not afraid
to carry the banner of humanity
across the face of the invaders
who proclaim propaganda
so unrepentant in the hateful actions
plotted against you that only their death
can prophetically foretell your future existence
